Description
Torr is about 2 miles from the centre of the village of Drewsteignton which is an ideal location for those who wish to live in the Dartmoor National Park and yet require good communications with easy access to the A30 dual carriageway to both the east and west. The village itself is one of Dartmoor's most notable villages with many delightful picture postcard thatched cottages, several of which surrounding the village square are owned by the National Trust. It has a magnificent ancient Church, Post Office and the noted Drewe Arms public house. Nearby are the famous National Trust properties of Castle Drogo and Fingle Bridge. Also nearby is the famous little Dartmoor market town of Chagford with a range of facilities to meet most every day needs.
This is an exciting, recently converted detached barn conversion. It offers a high specification home that is attractive, full of character and adaptable for those who wish to live in sight of Dartmoor without being remote from major facilities or the travel networks to and from the rest of the country. Those who want to combine their home and place of work are also well catered for as the property includes a separate building that provides a garage/workshop with a large and well equipped studio/office suite above. The conversion, undertaken by our vendors for their own use, uses the highest grade of natural materials and traditional skills throughout. Natural finished English oak and local stone, polished limestone flooring and antique reclaimed wide floorboards all feature. The highly advanced heating system is based on a sophisticated heated air exchange and underfloor heating with separately controlled zones for different parts of the buildings.
The accommodation
is reverse level to suit the topography and to provide for the best outlook to the moor from the living areas.

Outside
A timber five bar gate with granite posts leads to a gravel drive between stone retaining walls that divides. To the left it descends between retaining walls to the garage. To the right it rises to a metal field gate giving access to the Paddock.
The Paddock
Gently sloping in a southerly direction. L-shaped, laid to grass with hedge and stock fence boundaries.
The Gardens
The Landscaped gardens lie to the west and to the south of the property and like the paddock slope gently to the south. Adjacent to the house there are manicured lawns with stone and timber edged gravel paths and a succession of beds with an extremely wide range of garden plants and shrubs designed to give continuing interest throughout the year. At its southern edge there is an aluminium framed Greenhouse approx 8' x 6' (2.44m x 1.83m) external, with water tap usefully sited beside and screened by an evergreen hedge. A timber built Dog Kennel and wired run. To the west the formal garden is bounded by a neatly clipped beech hedge. Beyond this mainly laid to lawn there is a more informal area, broadly triangular in shape and planted with a rich variety of garden trees and with cruciform shaped Kitchen Garden and Orchard Area with a wide spaced regular planting of carefully pruned fruit trees, approaching maturity on dwarf root stocks. At the northern end of this informal garden a good sized pond has been allowed to naturalise to provide a home for a large shoal of goldfish. The overflow from this pond forms an occasional stream in the formal garden.
Detailed Planning Permission has been granted for the erection of a timber portal frame store in the paddock, close to the access gate. The timber clad building will be 13.5 metres long, 7.6 metres wide and 3.65 metres high to the underside of the eaves. Six roof lights will be allowed in a slate coloured box profile steel sheet roof. Dartmoor National Park application number: 0208/05 approved in April 2005 with the work to be completed by March 2010. At the time of granting the planning permission an estimate to supply and erect the building was provided by Fingle Farm Buildings Ltd. of Drewsteignton in the sum of £7,420 plus VAT.
